About

welcome, dear ones.

i write with the hope that my many wonderful supporters can be kept abreast of my work in india, and others can learn of it.  to sum up, i left my life as a ballet teacher in northern california, to practice dance therapy in the red light districts of bihar, one of the most impoverished states in india.  i teach girls aged 6-16, helping them to reclaim their bodies, and ultimately their sexualities, as their own.

‘kamala nrtya’ means ‘the lotus dance’ in hindi, and it is this duality of the lotus that i see – and strive for – every day.  to live like the lotus, at home in the muddy water, is my goal, and my beautiful students embody this:  they blossom and glow with light despite the muddy, murky waters into which they were born.

also, i love goats… so india and i get along just fine!

please share with your friends and family, and if you have dollars to drop in my hat i’d be very grateful.  but mostly, thank you.  thank you for reading.  thank you for caring…

blessings,

~melinda.

  2. Great stuff Melinda. Can’t wait until this becomes a book, which I’m sure it will. I read the whole blog beginning to end in one sitting. Amazingly written. You’ve come a long way.
